Position:                            School Social Worker 

Location:                          District- Special Education

Starting Date:                  ASAP

Hours per Day:                 7 hours

Work Days per Week:      5 days

Qualifications Required:   

  • Master’s degree in social work.
  • Must have a School Social Worker certification and MSW 310.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with five (5) years of work experience with children, families, and school systems.
  • Experience with Positive Behavior Support Systems, Instructional Supports, and Response to Intervention/MTSS.
  • Evidence of successful experience in student/parent relations.
  • Successful experience in serving an urban population and working with clients of various ethnic background.
  • Ability to develop a professional relationship with clients.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and implementation of various treatment methods, including family therapy.
  • Knowledge of the medical model social work services, including familiarity with community resources for medically fragile children and their families.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule which includes some community and parent meetings in the evenings.
  • Ability to conduct functional behavioral assessments and behavioral intervention plans.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):

  • Maintain caseload of at-risk learners to provide support and behavioral interventions leading to academic success.
  • Conduct group sessions with students in both a special ed and general ed setting who have common problems which impede their ability to be successful, (i.e. anger management, coping skills, etc.).
  • Knowledgeable of a variety of community resources and work with individual students to identify those community resources necessary to their success at school.
  • Assist families with finding necessary resources.
  • Monitor students’ data to demonstrate growth.
  • Develop and monitor goals for students and the criteria for success.
  • Communicate individual plans for students to staff to facilitate a whole school approach to student improvement.
  • Work in collaboration with school administration to address the needs of our most at-risk learners, with the focus on improving academics.
